Preschool Lead Teacher

Good Dharma is an innovative and eco-friendly preschool dedicated to nurturing young minds in an environment that prioritises sustainability, creativity, and holistic development. Our green ethos is integrated into every aspect of our school, from our curriculum to our daily practices. We are seeking an experienced and passionate Lead Teacher to join our team and support our mission of fostering environmental stewardship and educational excellence in our students.

Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development and Implementation:

    • Develop and deliver age-appropriate lesson plans that incorporate sustainability and environmental education.

    • Utilize outdoor learning spaces and nature-based activities to enhance children's learning experiences.

    • Continuously evaluate and refine the curriculum to ensure alignment with our green ethos.

  • Classroom Management:

    • Create a nurturing, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and respect for nature.

    • Foster a sense of community and belonging among students.

    • Implement positive behavior management strategies.

  • Student Development:

    • Support the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of each child.

    • Conduct regular assessments to monitor and document students' progress and development.

    • Provide individualized support and differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.

  • Parent and Community Engagement:

    • Build strong, collaborative relationships with parents and guardians, keeping them informed and engaged in their child's learning journey.

    • Organize and participate in school events, workshops, and community initiatives that promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices.

  • Professional Development and Collaboration:

    • Stay current with best practices in early childhood education and environmental education.

    • Participate in professional development opportunities and collaborative planning sessions with colleagues.

    • Mentor and support assistant teachers and other staff members.

  • Administrative Duties:

    • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and licensing requirements.

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, assessments, and progress.

    • Assist with the organization and maintenance of classroom materials and resources.

    Permaculture Ethics in the role of the teacher

    The teacher role at Good Dharma School is rooted in the three core permaculture ethics:

    1.⁠ ⁠Earth Care – Nurturing respect and responsibility for the living world by incorporating nature-based learning, guiding children to understand ecological systems & encouraging practices that support regeneration of soil, water and biodiversity.

    2.⁠ ⁠People Care – Creating a compassionate, inclusive and supportive classroom environment that values each child's wellbeing, emotional intelligence and self-awareness, while also supporting the learning and growth of fellow educators.

    3.⁠ ⁠Fair Share – Promoting principles of equity and cooperation through collaborative learning, community engagement and responsible use and sharing of resources in the classroom and beyond.

    The teacher will be expected to model and embody these ethics through daily practice, lesson planning, communication with families and collaborative curriculum development with the wider teaching team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Environmental Education, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in early childhood education, preferably with experience in a leadership or supervisory role.

  • Strong knowledge of environmental education and sustainable practices.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated passion for fostering a love for learning and the environment in young children.

  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
