Good Dharma is looking for enthusiastic and caring Teaching Assistants to join our growing international school in southern Sri Lanka.

You don't need to be a qualified teacher. We are looking for people with the right attitude, energy and genuine love of working with children, who are excited to learn and develop as part of our teaching team.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside and under the direction of a Class Teacher, helping create a safe, engaging and supportive environment where children can learn, play, explore and grow.

Teaching Assistants are an important part of the classroom team. You will support children individually and in small groups, help prepare learning experiences, supervise activities and contribute to the smooth running of the classroom throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

• Support the Class Teacher in delivering planned learning activities and experiences.

• Work with individual children and small groups under the guidance of the Class Teacher.

• Encourage children's curiosity, independence, confidence and love of learning.

• Support play-based, inquiry-led, creative and nature-based learning.

• Accompany and supervise children throughout the campus, including classrooms, gardens, outdoor learning areas and around our animals.

• Help children participate positively in classroom routines, transitions, meals, bathroom breaks and outdoor activities.

• Promote positive behaviour, cooperation, kindness and respectful relationships.

• Observe children's learning, development and wellbeing and share relevant observations with the Class Teacher.

• Provide additional support and encouragement to children who may need help participating or progressing.

• Prepare learning materials, activities and classroom environments as directed by the Class Teacher.

• Help keep classrooms and learning environments clean, organised, safe and ready for learning throughout the day.

• Support record keeping, learning portfolios and classroom documentation where required.

• Participate in staff meetings, training, professional development and school events.

• Follow Good Dharma's safeguarding, health and safety, positive guidance and other school procedures.

• Work collaboratively with teachers, fellow Teaching Assistants and the wider Good Dharma team.

Who We Are Looking For

You may already have experience working with children, or you may be at the beginning of your career and looking for an opportunity to grow within education.

What matters most is that you are responsible, caring, energetic and eager to learn.

You should enjoy being active with children. A normal day at Good Dharma might involve helping with a learning activity in the classroom, reading with a small group, creating something together, exploring the garden, getting muddy outside or helping children care for and learn about the natural world around them.

Requirements

Candidates should have:

• Completed GCE O-Level, with A-Level qualifications preferred.

• Fluent spoken English and Sinhala.

• A genuine love of working with children.

• Patience, compassion and a positive attitude.

• Good communication and interpersonal skills.

• Willingness to learn and participate in ongoing training.

• Ability to work collaboratively and follow the direction of the Class Teacher.

• Reliability, professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility.

• Flexibility and willingness to adapt to the changing needs of children and the classroom.

Previous experience in childcare, preschool, education or working with children is an advantage, but we also welcome candidates with strong potential who are motivated to develop professionally.
